Charlotte Henriette Junkermeier

Charlotte Henriette (“Henriette”, “Nettie”, “Jette”) Junkermeier was born Feb. 23, 1873 at Stemmen 58, daughter of Christian Friedrich Konrad and Henriette Sophie Justine (Bökemeier) Junkermeier II. She was baptized at Varenholz, Mar. 2, 1873. Her godmothers were Henriette Bökemeier of Stemmen and Charlotte Krugjohann of Langenholzhausen.

Journey to America

Henriette left Stemmen for America on Feb. 14, 1892, as part of a small group from the village. She went to Charles City, Iowa, where her uncle and aunt Bökemeier were farming. Before her marriage, she kept house for her brother Christian III, and she worked in homes at Charles City, Iowa. In the winter of 1896 she went to Storm Lake, Iowa to visit her Junkermeier aunt and uncles.

Marriage

Henriette married Mar. 1, 1897 at Charles City, Iowa, Friedrich Karl (“Frederick Charles”, called “Fred”) Fritzemeier, born Dec. 6, 1867 at Stemmen 33, son of Hermann Heinrich Ludwig (1828-1922) and Charlotte Wilhelmine (Bünte) (1830-1891) Fritzemeier.
